Year of 2014 & the 2015 resolution

I didn't want to fill up my Facebook page so here it is. Well 2014, it's been a real one. The year itself was even better than 2013 for me. Is it because the Florida State Seminoles won the National Football Championship of the 2013-14 season? Is it because they (FSU) went undefeated back to back in 2 seasons? Is it because the Dallas Cowboys clinched the NFC East & got into the playoffs this year? Is it because of the fact that I got my Associates' Degree? Is it because that I actually was able to place in tournaments? Heh, well then, let's reflect back a little bit.

To start off 2014, it came to Florida State vs Auburn in the BCS National Championship, the very last one. All I had to hear when I would go to classes was "FSU isn't that good. They played no one. They wouldn't beat an SEC team in the big one. If FSU plays Bama, I hope they lose by 100." This type of stuff. I stayed quiet until the game happened. When Auburn went up 21-3, I was getting tags by everyone who hated them. The 2nd half came. By the last 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter of that game, Tre Mason ran Auburn's last touchdown when the Noles took the lead with a return for a TD. It was then when Jameis Winston & Kelvin Benjamin made "The Catch" having 1:13 left in the game to operate. We won the National Championship 34-31. That was only the start of it. Yeah it's all in the past, but the fact is WE WON IT.

In general, as JDE, it has been a great year in fighting games. To follow up my favorite team winning, I was able to go to Kumite In Tennessee 2014 (KiT14). I got to room with my boys, Blader RD, Shade Swifteye, & Chosen 1. It was there that I finally got to play on stream in a major. It was really of no surprise to me at all that I played on stream, just a lot of things during my matches slipped my mind. Nonetheless, I hardly ever mention any of these types of accomplishments, but I also made top 8 within the tournament even though it was 23 people who played DOA. The only reasons why I don't mention any type of accolade such as this is because I try to suppress any type of sign of an ego towards the community (though there are a bunch of knuckleheads) & I try to see if I can improve. It's all about progression at this point. This was also the time that I met Justin Wong, PR Balrog, & some of the other good players in the SF community.

In addition, at Final Round, I made it into top 16 once again. I got to 9th but I felt like I played better than I did at KiT. Still, it was about me progressing a player. The year before that at FR, I placed around 33rd.

Around May, I got my 1st college degree. It was one of the greatest feelings in the world. It felt even better than walking across the stage my high school senior year. The fact that I had that semester off with no worries was also another great feeling. This was also around the same time that I began doing more Skype calls with fellow FGC members like Nereus, Blank October, BootyFetish Ken, Blader RD, Destruction Bomb, & Allan Paris.

During the summer, I've finally gotten chance to learn the mechanics of Street Fighter. I never really found a true main in the game. I had just been bouncing back & forward between Ryu & Ken. However, after a long consideration & going through their toolsets, I finally concluded that Ryu is the character that I want to play. I want to get better at spacing. Spacing hasn't always been my strong suit, so I'm looking to improve on that. He will help me do so. Shout outs to Ninjacw, Perfect Legend, & BootyFetishKen for the tutorials & info to help out with my journey.

In the fall, I began my 1st semester at UTC & had a blast. I met some awesome friends there that I would like to keep in touch with like Diana Vo, Cayley Braynt, & Brittany Carson. Then of course I enjoy studying with good with Kaitlynn Gipson. I'm hoping to improve on my studies by studying a lot harder than I did the last time. It's going to take some good balancing of the schedule so that it won't cut into my free time, but I will be ready for it. At the same time, I'm putting in a lot of time into DOA, SF, KI, & MKX when it releases. I've been putting into a lot of time into DOA, SF, & KI as it is. I also got to attend TFC14 with Fred Campbell & Awesmic as traveling partners, Chosen 1, Krim Reaper, Awesmic, & Super Elite as roommates. I didn't do as well as I did in the last 2 tournaments. I went 1-2, but I got to chill with some of my homies on my team like HajinShinobi, NinjaCW, Something Unique, Allan Paris, Shade Swifteye, Blank October, Prince Adon, BootyFetish Ken, Shin Ryujin, Hoodless, Sweet Revenge, Master, Rikuto, Sorwah, Cyber Evil, Chris Bahn, Eric Small, Shin Blanka, XCaliberBladez, Kwiggle, Yasushi Tani, Tom Lee (Team Ninja crew), Vandy, & so on. This was also my 1st SF tournament even though I went 0-2 (with Ken, but he's not who I use now).

Wrapping up my year was the holidays, time to be around my family. This is always a good thing. In addition the Florida State Seminoles went undefeated again & won the ACC Championship while the Dallas Cowboys clinched the NFC East playoff spot. This pretty much sums up my year.

NOW, with 2015 here, I'm looking to have the same resolution with new goals. The resolution that I always have is be cool, think, positive, grow & meet new people.

Goals:

  • Excel through all of my classes & finish the semester strong going into my last year in college
  • Level up my competitive gaming status
  • Get a PS4, & buy more games outside of fighting games to both consoles (Last year all I bought were fighters)
  • Learn to play on a fightstick for Street Fighter & Killer Instinct, despite pad being little issue (but get minor input errors)
  • Start streaming games in my spare time for fun
  • Lose a little bit of weight over the summer or spring
  • Attend at least 2 offline majors this year coming up
  • Drive myself to places more often other than just around my area
That's about it. Everyone should know what my signature avatar is by now. Happy New Year!
